I have a question. Everybody feel free to answer. Where do you have your good English knowledge from? Are you studying English or do you learn it at school? Sorry, my English is not that good.
I’m good in reading English texts and not so bad in listening. But my problems are the writing and the speaking. I have no routine in it.
At school I was average in English. For English courses at University you must write a test and then you get your classification which course you are allowed to participate. I was very afraid of the test. When you had English at school you must get a certain number of points. Because you are not allowed to participate in a beginner course. I wrote the test, I was not bad. And now I’m doing my third English course. For the first time I have a native speaker. He comes from Great Britain and we have much fun with him. I’m learning very much about the English language. His main point is not the grammar.
I’m doing the English courses of fun and because I need English for my studies (Master of chemistry). But I’m noticing how much my English is improving.
I hope that was not too boring. :baby:9. Dezember 2010 um 17:17 Uhr #244350saoirseMitgliedThat´s interesting. I also started to learn english at school. I always had problems with the grammar til I started to read english books. From the age of 16 I spent all my summers in England and Ireland for summer school which improved my english immensly. At university I also took english courses. It is a huge difference when you have native speakers as teachers. You get a much better pronouncation and learn an english people really speak on the streets. Most important is to practice a language. Most of the books I read and DVD´s I watch are in english. Sometimes I don´t even remember if I read something in english or german. It ´s all the same for me. I also have the advantage to work for a touristic company which has a lot of customers from England and Scotland so I can practise my English everyday.

Currently I’m doing a High School Year in Texas and that improved both the formal and the bad stuff… But I think the only way to get good at a language is to really go to a foreign country and live there. Just with school, no matter how hard you try, you will never get good enough.
Or with watching House. It helps, but you need interaction with native speakers to get better. Like summers in Ireland16. März 2011 um 13:12 Uhr #247223es_doroMitgliedI started learning English in 6th grade and I made my A-Levels two years ago. I love reading English books and watch English movies/series etc because I really LOVE it! Unfortunately I haven’t had the possibility to talk to a native speaker yet. That’s one of the main reasons why I intend to travel to Florida this summer. :jubel:
