    David Shore previews ‚challenging‘ Episode

It’s House’s worst nightmare: a patient who doesn’t respond to his blood-pressure-raising button-pushing. Like, at all.

In the Fox hit’s March 23 episode, rapper-turned-actor (ractor?) Mos Def plays a victim of locked-in syndrome, a paralytic condition that cuts off one’s ability to move or communicate. Isn’t that the same medical malady as in the 2007 Oscar nominee The Diving Bell and the Butterfly, you ask? Pretty much, yes, says exec producer David Shore. „[But] we were very conscious of wanting to tell our story our way and not simply tread territory that they already covered so well.“

As in Butterfly, much of the change-of-pace story will be told from the patient’s point-of-view (see photo, above) — a storytelling device Shore concedes proved „challenging.“ Also, Mos Def will communicate solely by blinking. But unlike Butterfly, the House episode — which was directed by Dan Attias, the acclaimed helmer behind last week’s road trip-themed Big Love ep — is less about him and more about what’s going on around him. „Our doctors are told to keep his mind active,“ explains Shore, „and they wind up saying things — personal things –- that they might not normally say.“

Hmm… might this ep lay the groundwork for House and Cuddy’s much-talked-about-by-me sex date? „I really don’t want to go into the particulars of [them hooking up] because we have found a really cool way to do it, and I don’t want to spoil it,“ Shore hedges. „But I will confirm that we are taking things forward [with them].“

Wenn Shore das so sagt („We have found a really cool way to do it“), dann steht ES ja tatsächlich fest??

Sex Ja. Sex Nein. Sex Jein. Oder doch was anderes?

Morrison teased a bit about what’s in store for Cameron as the season begins to wind down. “It will be really interesting to see. There are a lot of things coming up in the next few episodes that I can’t talk about,” she said, declining my plea for a scoop. “We’ve hit a sort of critical turning point within the next few episodes that air. House has always been a show where everything happens a little bit at a time; but at the end of season five a lot happens for a lot of the characters all at once. I think the end of the season really drastically affects the way a lot of the characters are going to continue to grow and change over time. I’m trying to be vague and specific at the same time… I can’t quite answer that in as much detail as I’d like to.”

    […]

All I can say is there’s a lot happening for all of us. There are things that are going to happen that every character is impacted by. There are several things that are going to happen in the last five-ish episodes that kind of re-direct all of us.” She explained that giving more of a hint would risk giving away the entire game. So we will all just have to wait. And speculate. (Quelle)

    Ask Ausiello

Question: I heard the title of episode 22 of House this season is „Bye-Bye Thirteen.“ Is that true? –Cindy
    Ausiello:
Sounds to me like the anti-Thirteen brigade is ratcheting up their propaganda campaign. The title of episode 22 is actually „A House Divided.“

    EDIT:
Question: Thanks so much for telling us about Wilson coming face-to-face with his brother in next week’s episode of House. Anything else coming up for him? –Monica
Ausiello: Series creator David Shore tells me we’ll see „a hint“ of a new romance for him before the season ends.

    House
    Fox, Mondays, 8 PM
“House undergoes some pretty traumatic stuff in the last half of the season,“ reveals the show’s leading man, Hugh Laurie. “Not physical but mental.“ Series creator David Shore wouldn’t say whether the crisis his title character will be facing is what ultimately leads him to bed his boss Cuddy (Lisa Edelstein). “They’re both troubled people,“ he points out. “It’s not like she’s this thing that if only he could reach out and grab it, everything would be okay.“ In non-Huddy news, Chase (Jesse Spencer) and Cameron (Jennifer Morrison) will finally move back to the forefront in a “really cool“ way, and there will be a “hint“ of a new romance for Wilson (Robert Sean Leonard).

    Quote:
TVGuide.com: As of late on House, there seems to be a little less „the spleen must have an aneurysm“ medi-babble, and a bit more on Taub’s home life.
Peter Jacobson: Yeah, and there are three or four episodes coming up where we’re going to get a little more into that. We’re also going to dive more intensely into House’s abuse of Taub, which is fun. It’s fun to read, fun to act, and fun to watch!

TVGuide.com: Where do things stand with Taub and his wife? Are they going to go for kids?
Jacobson: At this point I’m not sure where were going to go with that. That issue is still hanging a bit, but we do get into more of Taub’s inner turmoil.

TVGuide.com: In this week’s episode, „House suspects that Wilson and Taub are hiding something from him.“ Why?
Jacobson: I can’t reveal too much, but I will say that Wilson and I have some plans to do something, and House gets very suspicious about it. He does not want anybody poking around with his best friend there, so I once again get used and abused as a result.

TVGuide.com: Beyond that, we have a death-predicting cat, Mos Def, and Meat Loaf. Which is your favorite of those three upcoming episodes?
Jacobson: I don’t know, those are three really good episodes. I’m not necessarily a big cat fan, but all of us fell in love with this cat. I mean, a death-predicting cat? That should be enough said.

TVGuide.com: I imagine the cat is actually picking up on something that’s causing the nursing-home deaths…?
Jacobson: That’s sort of what we are suspecting — beyond the paranormal that might be at play. It’s House, so you never know.

TVGuide.com: And Mos Def’s episode sounds interesting because the story is told from his character’s point of view.
Jacobson: He has something called „Locked-in Syndrome,“ and the audience gets „locked in“ with him. It’s a fantastic, fantastic episode. Mos Def is just a fabulous actor. And continuing that move towards musicians-as-guest stars, we have Meat Loaf, who is also wonderful.

TVGuide.com: [House exec producer] Katie Jacobs told me the team might be down one by the season finale. Is that still the plan?
Jacobson: That I don’t know. We’re going strong right now, and at the moment it’s all of us, and we’re solving cases as normal. Trying to get some sense of where they’re going, even in my short tenure here, has proven futile. [Laughs]

Und ich nochmal :) Neuer Casting Call:

    Quote:
These are for an episode that films between the 16th and 27th March.

[JEREMY] – male, 21-25, Caucasian; MALE BALLET DANCER. Should be PROFICIENT in ballet and partnering. Boyfriend of episode lead, GUEST STAR NO PHONE CALLS PLEASE

[CONDUCTOR] – male, 60’s, Caucasian. Please only submit actors who have conducting EXPERIENCE. CO-STAR
    NO PHONE CALLS PLEASE

    Quote:
Is it true that House’s Jennifer Morrison is finally back as a regular in the last four episodes of the season? — Mar
MATT: That is the buzz, yes. I pressed Peter Jacobson (aka Taub) to confirm as much, and all he would say was, „At this point, I’m getting to know Jesse [Spencer, who plays Chase] and Jennifer a little better, which is nice. I had not been working with them, but now we’re starting to come together in a way.“ I took Remedial Reading Between the Lines 101 in school, and that to me suggests at least a bit more „Chameron“ action to come.

    Neues von Ausiello:

Question: Jesse Spencer has already confirmed that he’ll be back on House next season, but what about Jennifer Morrison? Is she leaving at the end of this season? –Maria
Ausiello: Not according to series creator David Shore, who insists Morrison figures into his long-term plans. But that’s not to say that someone else won’t be leaving Princeton-Plainsboro. Asked if he’s planning any staff changes heading into the fall, Shore tells me we’ll „pretty much see the same cast.“ Let me call your attention to the following words: Pretty and much.

Question: Do things work out for Wilson and his brother on House? –Monica
Ausiello: If they do, we won’t find out this season. „That [story] won’t be forgotten,“ says David Shore. „But that is not where we’re going at the end of this year.“
