Obviously the most of you watch the newest episodes of our favourite series on FOX. So I thought for myself, we could also talk about in English, if you’d like to. How I’d noticed there are many younger people in here, so you could teach yourself in that language, too. Well, for now I’m on my way home, but I’m already curious about your feedback!

Hope to hear from you soon on this page 8)

I had this one teacher who could not speak English at all. She said ‚No, it’s not ‚catholic‘ it’s ‚casselic‘! She would have had me in stitches if she wouldn’t have given me such awful marks all the time.

Now I understand why German English teachers are so damn back. All those fellow student from my graduation year who started studying to become a teacher did so because they barely passed their Abitur or at least with less than average marks like a 3.2 or so. Those of my advanced English class (Leistungskurs) who started studying English all had a mark worse than 8 points in their final exams.

I got a friend that’ll start studying English and wants to become a teacher and I’m not sure, if she’s that good in English… We had basic class English together and as far as I remember, she didn’t get bad grades, but I got some other friends that are able to speak English a lot better…
Btw: Me and a friend stayed a day at MUC Airport last weekend (another friend had to bring someone there… a little complicated^^) and we talked English for about two hours^^ It was really great and whenever we didn’t know something we just said it in German and tried to translate it together… It was a lot of fun (I love to speak English) and a good training, too.

I personally never had a really bad English teacher. But that’s probably because at the university where almost all my teachers went it was mandatory for future teachers to spend a year in a country where the language they study is spoken.
Also I was very lucky to have had a couple of English teachers who actually gave a damn and did more than just teach out of a book.

At my school there was an English teacher, who’s English was not bad, just very, very sächsisch. It sounded really painful in my ears. I somehow always doubted native speakers understand what she’s saying. =)

Oh, I think I know her. She’s got a side job making public announcements on the ICE form Hamburg to Berlin, doesn’t she? I always wondered how someone could possibly understand a word of what she says. Native speakers probably need help from spanish tourists to translate that saxon-english for them =)

I only had one pretty bad English teacher, in 9th and 10th grade. Not only was her class pretty boring (she even managed to spoil a „Marx Brothers“ movie by pausing it every minute or so to discuss the vocabulary, and believe me, plays on words are no fun anymore if you analyse them too much ?(), but she just didn’t have the ability to admit when she was wrong. If she didn’t know a word, then it of course couldn’t exist in the english language. I still remember vividly a 10 minute conversation where a friend of mine tried to convince her that she did not make up ’stage coach‘ but that this was a real vocable.
And of course she was the only teacher where you could actually finish a vocabulary test with a negative score! She asked for 15 words, every right one got you one point, every wrong or missing one minus 2 points – great! (Count it out – you could have 2/3 of the words right but still get 0 points) :baby: ?(

I had the same problem just the other way around, one of my teachers sometimes told us, we would pronounce something wrong while we just pronounced it the British way… But beside that he was a great teacher :rulze:

I watched „Life on Mars“ in English a while ago and really liked it, so hopefully I’ll be able to watch Torchwood or Doctor Who in engl., too! Right now I’m watching ER and since it’s kind of torture to me to watch any episode past Season 3 in German (e.g. different dubbing speakers) I’m watching it only in English…

Oh I watched the early seasons of ER in English. Lurve! I don’t know, but Carter is much funnier when he makes his stupid mistakes without a bad translation. =) And talking about George Clooneys sexy voice… mrow~ I had a few problems with the medical terams at the beginning but right now I think I’m able to do a pleural punction all by myself. :P

    You’re welcome.

I’m not even sure if my sentence was correct :D
Much too late and I spend all day writing and speaking in English. Which is fine with me but now my brain needs some rest.
